WTA125 Women’s Category

The BBVA Open Internacional de Valencia is a professional and international tournament that is a part of the WTA125 Women’s category.

Tournament

In the 2023 edition, a total of 64 players of 25 different nationalities will compete, 32 in the preliminary phase and 32 in the main draw. There will also be a doubles tournament in which 16 pairs will compete.

The BBVA Open Internacional Valencia Tournament, led by Anabel Medina, will bring the best women’s tennis to the Turia capital, which from June 10 to 18, 2023 will host a trophy with prizes of up to $115,000 at the Sporting Tennis Club for its participants, becoming the first WTA tournament in the history of the Valencian Community and one of the few to be held in Spanish territory.

The Sporting Tennis Club is one of the best urban clubs in Spain. Built by more than 2,000 members, there are 27,000 square meters of magnificent facilities in which we can enjoy 8 clay courts, 7 fast courts and 6 paddle courts.

Currently, the club is one of the main Tennis Schools in Spain. The main difference between the Sporting and other clubs, it’s its teaching competence, especially in the world of tennis and paddle.

Former Spanish tennis player, winner of 11 singles titles and 28 doubles titles in the WTA professional circuit; double Roland Garros champion in doubles and silver medalist in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She is currently captain of the Spanish Fed Cup team.

Sustainability & CSR

The main objective of the BBVA Open Internacional de Valencia will be to develop actions linked to sustainability and corporate social responsibility, in order to ensure a greater commitment to the community.

Sustainability

  • Use of electric and hybrid vehicles to reduce CO2 emissions and combat climate change.
  • Creation of a guarded parking lot for bicycles and scooters; spectators who use it will receive a piece of fruit upon arrival at the tournament.
  • Encouragement of the use of electronic ticketing through cell phones to promote the reduction of paper use.
  • A blood donation booth will be set up inside the facilities for fans to donate blood.
  • Placement of recycling containers to promote environmental care.

Corporate Social Responsibility

  • Coordination with different schools in Valencia with the objective of:
    – Children come to enjoy tennis during the week of the tournament.
    – Children participate in a clinic with the players of the tournament.
  • Exhibition by Sound Tennis, the 1st blind tennis academy in Spain that brings tennis closer to blind and visually impaired people.
