THE BBVA OPEN INTERNACIONAL DE VALENCIA BECOMES THE FIRST WTA TOURNAMENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE VALENCIAN REGION – BBVA Open Internacional de Valencia

The BBVA Open Internacional Valencia Tournament, with the help of Anabel Medina and Tennium, will bring the best women’s tennis to the capital of the Turia, which from 4 to 12 June 2022 will host a trophy at the Sporting Club de Tenis with prizes of up to $115,000 for its participants, making it the first WTA tournament in the history of the Valencian Community and one of the few to be held in Spain.

The creator and director of the tournament, together with one of the biggest sports companies in Europe, organiser of events such as the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell -Trofeo Conde de Godó, the ATP Argentina Open in Buenos Aires, the European Open in Belgium and the Senior Masters Cup, have been negotiating for months to be able to give a leap in quality to an event that was already a reference in the country.

This new synergy, together with the support of BBVA as the main sponsor, certifies the intention already presented in the 2021 edition of becoming a WTA tournament and being able to bring together some of the best players on the international circuit in the capital of the Turia.

But its evolution will not rule out any of the complementary activities that have given the tournament its own identity: the U16 tournament will continue to be played to offer visibility and opportunities to emerging players, as well as initiatives for athletes with disabilities.

In addition to this, there will be a special concern for the environment, after becoming the first tournament in the world to completely balance its carbon footprint, joining Valencia’s initiative to become one of the 100 cities chosen by the European Union to achieve climate neutrality by 2030.

The BBVA Open Internacional de Valencia will once again be supported by public institutions such as the Valencia City Council, Generalitat Valenciana and Diputación de Valencia, along with private entities such as the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, Volvo, RFET, Diputación de Valencia, Arroz Dacsa, Melt Group and Abenet Solu.
